Recognizing our MCS Angels

MCS Angels Award

Awarded to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s local chapter of Young Organizers United to Help (Y.O.U.T.H) was founded in 1989 at Marietta High School. It has been 27 years since they established this program and to-date they continue to support it financially and with volunteers. In this tenure of time, the Fraternity has provided over $25,000 in college scholarships to Marietta High School students. They have sponsored MHS students to attend the Fraternity’s Southern Region Leadership Institute, which is held at a college or university in June. In addition, the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has led an extracurricular STEM program at Marietta Middle School for two years. The chapter President, Dr. Arthur Vaughn has served as the PTA Treasurer at Westside Elementary as well as PTA President at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and later as the PTA President at Marietta Middle School.

The local chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. based in Marietta was founded in 1988. They mentor our students, read to them, host back to school drives, donate toys at Christmas, host a talent showcase; and since their chapter was charted they have awarded over $100,000 in scholarships. In addition, during their annual Achievement Week celebration, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. recognizes select teachers and administers for their dedication to “our” children.

There are several members who are current or retired educators; and their chapter President, Mr. David Jones is on the MCS Superintendent’s African-American Advisory and a mentor in the Mentoring for Leadership Program.
