CHI GAMMA GAMMA

Meet and Greet

Former 33rd Grand Basileus Moses Norman asked and challenged the Brothers of Chi Gamma Gamma in 2009, by asking “Who knows you outside of your chapter meetings?” “Does the community in which you live and serve, know who you are?” On March 19th at 4:00pm the Membership Committee kicked off the Meet and Greet at the East Cobb Government center. The event provided an opportunity for the community to come out and meet the brothers of Chi Gamma Gamma and share information about projects and programs of interest. The Meet and Greet was well attended by 52 guest, including special guests from the Down and Dirty Rodeo, delegates from the Marietta Roswell Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the City of Marietta Tree Keepers.

Brother Stanley Knowles representing the Down and Dirty Rodeo, spoke about his efforts to bring the Rodeo to Jim Miller Park in

Cobb County this year and his desire to partner with our chapter in this endeavor. The Down and Dirty Rodeo has a primary function of raising Prostate Cancer awareness in the community, especially among African American males. Brother Knowles went on to explain that at the Rodeo, doctors and prostate cancer survivors will be available to talk and counsel. He concluded by stating that he wants Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. out in front of this event.

The sisters from the Marietta-Roswell Alumnae chapter invited the group to their Spring Dance to help raise money for their scholarship program.

Jim Morris, retired Marietta Judge and Anita Wender both represented Marietta Tree Keepers Program and gave an inspiring speech on the work efforts that they lead throughout the city year round. They also thanked the chapter for the efforts that we have shown thus far by participating in the March tree planting session and several projects last year. We were surprised to hear from them, “We are in need of more African American male support in our community programs”, Anita the Vice President of the Marietta Tree Keepers offered a seat on the board of Marietta Tree Keepers to one of our undergraduate chapter brothers. Brother Mikell Rozier (Spr 08, ADN) who was in attendance met with Anita afterwards and stated that one of the brothers from Alpha Delta Nu would take advantage of this opportunity.

Other presenters included Brother Alex Spradling and Brother Jonathan Matthews as they spoke about the

Blood Drive and the Healthy Move Initiative projects respectively. Several of the presenters stated they wanted to come back to this type of an event in the future to present ideas to enhance the community. The event also served as a reclamation opportunity as we were surprised with several unclaimed brothers seeking a chapter with which to become active. Several young men also attended seeking information about joining the Fraternity and Chi Gamma Gamma. This event provided them with, not only the opportunity to speak with members of the Fraternity, but also to see our focus on service. The evening concluded with light refreshments and networking as the guests exchanged ideas on how to work together in the future and make the community better.
