What do the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Brothers of Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi all have in common? Can you say “three-peat?” For the third consecutive year the brothers of Chi Gamma Gamma captured the title at the 10^th Annual Metro Wide Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Basketball Tournament.

     The tournament was held on June 5^th on the campus of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga and was hosted by the brothers of newly chartered Alpha Delta Rho Chapter of Southern Poly and Mu Mu Mu Chapter of Douglassville. The tournament was a brotherhood and reclamation event giving the members of the Metro Atlanta chapters an opportunity to fellowship and compete. A sign-up sheet was passed around to all un-financial brothers; this info was passed along to the reclamation chair of participating chapters to reach out to these brothers. Chi Gamma Gamma, Beta Lambda Lambda, Theta Lambda Lambda, Tau, Phi Kappa Kappa, and Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapters of the Metro Atlanta Chapters participated, along with a newly formed undergrad team composed of brothers from Alpha Delta Rho, Beta Psi, Alpha Delta Nu, Zeta Theta, and Pi Delta Delta Chapters.

     Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter successfully defended its title winning The 10th Annual Metro- Atlanta Basketball Tournament. In the opening rounds Chi Gamma Gamma cruised past its first and second round opponents Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter and Phi Kappa Kappa Chapter. The undergrad team, in their first year competing, staged two major upsets in the early rounds taking down Tau Chapter and 2009 runner up Beta Lambda Lambda. The championship game matched the perennial champions Chi Gamma Gamma against the newcomer undergrad team. This truly proved to be an exciting match up. Early in the game Chi Gamma Gamma got out to an early 15 point lead, leading at halftime by 13 points. The second half was a different story as the undergrad team made a furious comeback taking the lead late in the second half. Chi Gamma Gamma tied the game and the game went into overtime. Chi Gamma Gamma struck first in overtime with and easy lay up, but the undergrad team fought back with a three point shot. The game was tied with 29.7 seconds to go Chi Gamma Gamma had the ball. Brother Randall Tatem dribbled down the clock so that they could take the final shot and then passed to Brother David Jones who hit the go ahead jumper with 6.7 seconds remaining. The undergrad team tried a long three point attempt that was off the mark, and Chi Gamma Gamma Chapter won its third straight championship.

     Led by Coach Bro. Nicholas Nelson, the team consisted of Brothers Don Blue, David Jones, Shawn Lattimore, Joe Mitchell, Kareem Miller, Shawn Nelson, Dwayne Willis, Henry Brown, Randall Tatem, Albert Lindsey, Wendell Reed, Corey Russ and Eli McKenzie. The 10^th Annual Atlanta- Metro Wide Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Basketball Tournament was a complete success. A $250 donation was given to Southern Poly State University for graciously allowing the use of their facility. The event merged family fun and athletic competition for a great time.
